THE MUSEUM AS A PLACE TO LEARN
What would you take to a lonely island?
Take it with you into the museum's Blue Room - and swap it there!
The Museum Kunst der Westküste is a cosmopolitan, service-oriented and family-friendly museum aimed at all age groups and all segments of society. It views itself as a place of extracurricular play, learning and activity where aesthetic practice is tried out and aesthetic learning is put into practice. The specific experiences, needs and interests of children and adolescents are thus central to the art-educational concept.
Through specially developed work material we aim to create an open and independent-minded approach to the museum. In a playful manner, issues related to colour theory, composition and artistic media are integrated into the course material of our workshops. Young museum visitors learn to see and understand art, as they explore the museum’s exhibitions based on various problem-solving tasks and engage in creative work in the workshop.
For more information on our workshop programme please see the column on the right.
In the “BLAU-Raum" ("Blue Room”), which was designed by set designer Birgit Angele, you can send or receive messages by bottle post. Each child may bring one item – a postcard, a photograph or a book – and exchange it here. Completely surrounded by blue, young museum visitors also have the opportunity to draw, to listen to stories, to read, to do jigsaw puzzles or simply to relax.
