What a beautiful impressionistic study! You almost feel like you can feel the fresh wind on your skin. It's a March day in 1895. The sky is still a light gray, but a group of young women have already gathered on the beach to chat and relax. Perhaps we can identify one of the young ladies with Andrea Briët, at least the painter dedicated this study to his half-sister and thus expressed their close bond. In the background on the left is the silhouette of the up-and-coming fashionable seaside resort of Scheveningen, near the Dutch seat of government The Hague. Briët captured the beautiful lighting mood wonderfully with a fast, impasto style – he probably created the delicate little study on site.
