Restaurant and Café Grethjens Gasthof

The current restaurant area is located on the site of the historic Alkersum village inn, wich was rebuilt as part of the new museum building. The Alkersum village inn was renamed “Grethjens Gasthof“ in memory of the achievements of the former innkeeper Margaretha Dorothea Hayen (1824-1910), whose nickname was “Grethjen“. Thanks to Grethjen‘s positive attitude towards the “venture of art“, the inn has served as a meeting point and accommodation for various artists who worked on Föhr at that time. One of the most famous guests was the co-founder of the Berlin Secession, Otto H. Engel (1866-1949). Today, “Grethjens Gasthof“ and the Museum Kunst der Westküste are among Föhr‘s foremost wedding venues. You can say your vows and celebrate a glamorous party in the large ballroom or on the gallery.
