Work by Arthur Briët Strandszene, 1895

Now we would like to seize the opportunity again to win a top-class work for the collection with your help.

Arthur Briët (1867 – 1939): Beach scene, oil on panel 15 x 26 cm,

Marked bottom left: Aan mijne zuster Andrea 26 Maart 1895, marked bottom right: A. Briët

What a beautiful impressionistic study! You almost feel like you can feel the fresh wind on your skin. It's a March day in 1895. The sky is still a light gray, but a group of young women have already gathered on the beach to chat and relax. Perhaps we can identify one of the young ladies with Andrea Briët, at least the painter dedicated this study to his half-sister and thus expressed their close bond. In the background on the left is the silhouette of the up-and-coming fashionable seaside resort of Scheveningen, near the Dutch seat of government The Hague. Briët captured the beautiful lighting mood wonderfully with a fast, impasto style – he probably created the delicate little study on site.

The painting was offered to us for €16,500. The art dealer, who would be delighted if this beautiful work were to become part of a museum, would give us a generous 25% discount.

We would be very happy if you would help us to reach the fundraising goal of € 12,375.
