Anja Jensen (born 1966) is one of the most renowned photo artists in Germany and works worldwide. Her photographic work was created on Föhre as part of her artist-in-residence stay. It seems to be the blue hour, which bathes the broad landscape panorama in a fascinating, almost eerie light. Caught by the spotlight of an artificial light source, the head of an elderly man, dressed in a blue woollen cap, red scarf and dark jacket, protrudes from the high dune grass in the left-hand quarter of the picture. In profile, he looks out over the calm sea, which has receded in the tidal current. The viewer gains the impression that the magical, twilight-like setting, alternating between twilight and artificial light, harbours secrets. But he himself also exposes himself to the suspicion of voyeurism and criminological observation.
The work also reveals Anja Jensen's intensive involvement with the collection Art of the Coast, for example with paintings by the great Skagen painter Peder Severin Krøyer.
Anja Jensen's magnificent photography can currently be seen in the exhibition BETWEEN STORM AND CALM - The Internationale Maritime Museum Hamburg Hosts the MKdW
